Consulting the shortcut reference
Let’s first talk about the fastest way to access the keyboard shortcut reference on your Chromebook: to do so just press the key combination CTRL + ALT + ?
This will bring up a window which will allow you to press the SHIFT, CTRL and ALT keys and to see the resulting shortcuts corresponding to the various key combinations.
Too many shortcuts?
As practical as keyboard shortcuts are, they can quickly become overwhelming since there are so many of them! It is therefore important to make a selection of those which you might actually find useful on a daily basis.
The most useful shortcuts
To print: press CTRL + P
To erase something (“delete”key on a classic keyboard): press ALT + BACKSPACE
To perform a screen capture: press CTRL + F5
To perform a cropped screen capture: press CTRL + SHIFT + F5
To open an incognito window: press CTRL + SHIFT + N
To open a new tab: press CTRL + T
To open a link in a new tab: hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the link
To zoom, hold down CTRL while pressing the + key, and to zoom out, hold down CTRL while pressing the – key
To change the screen resolution: press CTRL + SHIFT + the up or down arrow key
To create a new file in the file manager: press CTRL + E
To rename a file in the file manager: press CTRL + the ENTER key
To cut – copy – paste, it’s the same as on a Windows PC: press CTRL + X – CTRL + C – CTRL + V
To select all, it’s also the same procedure as on a Windows PC: press CTRL + A
To go to the beginning of a line of text (“home” key on a standard keyboard), press CTRL + ALT + the up arrow key
To go the the end of a line of text (“end” key on a standard keyboard), press CTRL + ALT + the down arrow key
